In 2004, Jeff founded Uncork (then SoftTech VC) to fill a gap he saw in venture: seed-stage founders needed both capital and a true partner in their first 18 months of life. Since then, he and the team have invested in more than 280 startups, including Fitbit, SendGrid, Postmates, Mint, Eventbrite, and Poshmark. Today, he continues to support scaled companies like DroneDeploy, Front, Shippo, ClassDojo, Phil, and Carrot Fertility. He also sits on the board of Loft Orbital, Messari, Inscribe, UserGems, Overflow, Lumina, Koobz, and several early-stage startups still in stealth.

Born, raised, and educated in France, Jeff earned his MS in Computer Science and a degree in Distributed Computing from Université Paris V René Descartes. He was an early employee at a fintech startup called Effix, where he began as an intern and eventually became its CTO. Reuters acquired Effix, and Jeff moved into product development and leadership roles across the company. In 2000, he immigrated to the U.S. and joined RVC, Reuters’ $450 million corporate venture capital fund, as a general partner in its Silicon Valley office.

A veteran of the Forbes Midas List and CB Insights’ Top 100 VCs, Jeff also served on the board of the National Venture Capital Association from 2015 to 2019. He recently started a 4-year mandate as a board member of VentureForward, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm of the NVCA.

Outside of Uncork, Jeff loves spending time with friends and family, traveling, hiking, and skiing. He’s an eclectic wine collector and entrepreneur, having recently launched his own winery in Walla Walla, WA. Jeff is also addicted to strength training on Tonal and won’t call it a day without clocking 15,000 steps on his Fitbit (don’t mind him walking during Zoom meetings).
